KELLEY FALLEN NAMED ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: 

For the week of December 3, 2007

Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong

University of St. Thomas first-year forward Kelley Fallen (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) scored four goals to help St. Thomas post a sweep of St. Catherine this past weekend. In Friday's 7-2 victory, CSC had pulled within 2-1 when Fallen scored back-to-back goals in the second period. She came back to score the game's only two goals in Saturday's 2-0 victory. Fallen now has seven goals in six games for the 5-1 Tommies.

 

 

ARMSTRONG ALUMNI ONCE AGAIN MAKE US PROUD!!

The Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey Team has announced that Derek Peltier will be the Captain of the 2007-2008 team.  His teammate, Evan Kaufmann, another Armstrong alumni, will fill the role of assistant captain. In other alumni news, Robbie Dee will be playing for Maine this season!  WAY TO GO, GUYS!!!!

AYHA ALUM PATTERSON INVITED TO TRY OUT FOR THE 2008 US NATIONAL JUNIOR TEAM

Former AYHA goaltender Kent Patterson (Plymouth), now with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the United States Hockey League, in one of five American netminders invited to tryout for the 2008 U.S. National Junior Team.  Patterson was an outstanding goalie for several youth hockey teams during his career with Armstrong Youth Hockey Association, leading the Falcons to 2002-03 District 3 Peewee “A” Championship.  Following a stellar year at the bantam level, Patterson played for The Blake School as a freshman and sophomore before heading to the USHL. Kent is the son of Rick and Christie Patterson of Plymouth.  Kent becomes the first AYHA player since Jordan Leopold (2000) to be invited by USA Hockey, Inc. for a national team tryout.

 

AYHA ALUM THORSON SELECTED FOR USA HOCKEY ADVANCED 17 FESTIVAL

Following the Minnesota Hockey Advanced 17 “Final 51” Player Evaluation Camp in Plymouth in early May, Cory Thorson (Crystal) was selected as one of thirteen forwards from Minnesota who will participate in the USA Hockey Advanced 17 National Festival in St. Cloud, MN July 7-13. The event in St. Cloud represents the fourth phase of the Advanced Player Evaluation process which started in mid April.  Thorson, who will be a senior captain at Armstrong High School next season, was a prolific scorer as a youth hockey player on AYHA teams at the Mite, Squirt and Peewee levels before moving to high school hockey for the 2004-05 season. Cory is the son of Ben and Gloria Thorson and the brother of Brittney Thorson, a senior at Armstrong High School.  For a complete listing of the players from Minnesota selected to compete for the USA Hockey Advanced 17 National Festival, visit www.minnesotahockey.org.

 

 

THREE FORMER ARMSTRONG YOUTH SELECTED FOR “FINAL 51” EVALUATION CAMP

Following the Minnesota Hockey Advanced 16 & 17 Spring Festival held in Plymouth, April 13-15, the rosters have been released for the third phase of the Advanced Player evaluation process with three former Armstrong Youth Hockey Association players advancing to the third stage of the selection process. Cory Thorson (Crystal) who will be a senior at Armstrong High School next season, was selected for the Advanced 17 “Final 51” player evaluation tryout to be held May 5-6 at Plymouth Ice Center. This event will feature three teams of players born in 1990 trying out for approximately 20 spots in the USA Hockey Select 17 Camp in St. Cloud, Minnesota in June 7-13. In the Advanced 16, Thomas Fallen and Michael Morin were both selected for the “Final 51” player evaluation tryout to be held May 5-6 at Plymouth Ice Center. This event will feature three teams of players born in 1991 trying out for approximately 20 spots in the USA Hockey Select 17 Camp in Rochester, New York, June 23-29.  Fallen will be a junior at Armstrong next season, while Morin will be a sophomore at The Breck School.

 

 

Three Falcons To Play College Hockey Next Season

Three hockey players from Armstrong High School have announced plans to play college hockey for the 2007-08 season, the most players to move to the collegiate level in AHS girl’s hockey history. Senior captains Kristen Grossman and Kelley Fallen have committed to the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. The Tommies compete at the Division 3 level in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Hockey Conference. They recently lost a tough one-goal decision to arch rival Gustavus Adolphus (led by former Falcon Kelly Crandall) in the MIAC Championship Game, one game away from earning a berth in the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. Senior forward Ashly Berner committed to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls which finished second in the NCHA with an overall record of 14-9-4 in 2006-07.  All three players were name All-Conference by the Classic Lake Conference head coaches for this past season.
